Pediatric Dental Crowns in Las Vegas

A pediatric crown covers a tooth that needs more support than a filling can provide. At Avocabo Dental & Orthodontics, Dr. Bo Kwok evaluates the tooth's condition, development, symptoms, and remaining structure before recommending a crown.

What Does Pediatric Dental Crowns Involve?

A crown is a restoration that covers the visible portion of a prepared tooth to restore shape and function. Pediatric options may include stainless steel or tooth-colored restorations, depending on the tooth and clinical needs.

Who May Benefit?

A child may benefit when a tooth has extensive decay, significant damage, or has received pulp treatment and remains restorable. Crown selection depends on whether the tooth is front or back, baby or permanent, and how much support it needs.

An in-person evaluation is required before Dr. Bo Kwok can recommend care for an individual patient.

What Can Patients Expect?

Step 1

Assess

The tooth and surrounding tissues are examined, with imaging when needed to evaluate the extent of damage.

Step 2

Prepare

The area is numbed as appropriate, decay is removed, and the tooth is shaped for coverage.

Step 3

Place

A suitable crown is fitted, secured, and checked for bite and surrounding tissue response.

Potential Benefits

  • Provides full coverage for a weakened tooth
  • Restores chewing shape and function
  • Can help preserve a baby tooth until it is ready to be lost naturally

Limitations and Considerations

  • Requires more tooth preparation than a small filling
  • A crown can loosen, wear, or require replacement
  • A tooth that cannot be restored may still require extraction

What Alternatives May Be Considered?

A smaller cavity may be treated with a filling, while a nonrestorable or infected tooth may need other treatment or extraction. Monitoring is appropriate only when Dr. Kwok determines that delaying care is safe.

Comfort, Recovery, and Aftercare

Numbness and temporary gum or tooth sensitivity can occur after placement. Help your child avoid chewing while numb, brush around the crown carefully, and follow food and medication instructions from the dental team.
