Pediatric dental care in Las Vegas

Pediatric Dental Fillings in Las Vegas

A pediatric dental filling restores tooth structure removed because of a cavity or selected minor damage. Dr. Bo Kwok must examine the tooth, and imaging may be needed, before recommending a filling at Avocabo Dental & Orthodontics.

What Does Pediatric Dental Fillings Involve?

During filling treatment, damaged or decayed tooth structure is removed and the prepared area is restored with a dental material. Tooth-colored composite may be used when appropriate for the tooth and clinical situation.

Who May Benefit?

A child with a restorable cavity or small area of damage may benefit from a filling. The amount of remaining tooth structure, symptoms, cavity depth, tooth location, and whether it is a baby or permanent tooth affect the recommendation.

An in-person evaluation is required before Dr. Bo Kwok can recommend care for an individual patient.

What Can Patients Expect?

Step 1

Diagnosis

The tooth is examined and imaging may be used to understand the depth and location of decay.

Step 2

Restore

The area is numbed when needed, damaged tissue is removed, and restorative material is placed.

Step 3

Finish

The filling is shaped, hardened when applicable, polished, and checked against the bite.

Potential Benefits

  • Restores the shape and function of a treatable tooth
  • Closes the prepared area after decay removal
  • May help preserve more tooth structure than a larger restoration

Limitations and Considerations

  • Fillings can wear, chip, leak, or require replacement
  • A large or deeply damaged tooth may need a crown or extraction instead
  • Treatment does not prevent new cavities elsewhere

What Alternatives May Be Considered?

Depending on the cavity, options may include monitoring an early enamel change, minimally invasive caries management, a crown, pulp treatment, or extraction. The correct choice requires an examination.

Comfort, Recovery, and Aftercare

The mouth may remain numb after treatment, so supervise eating and help your child avoid biting the cheek or lip. Temporary sensitivity can occur; follow the eating, brushing, and medication guidance provided.

When Should You Contact Our Office?

Call if your child has worsening pain, swelling, fever, a filling that feels high or breaks, or sensitivity that does not improve. Urgent symptoms should not wait for a routine follow-up.
