Preventative dental care in Las Vegas

Fluoride Treatment for Children in Las Vegas

Topical fluoride treatment is a preventive option that can help make tooth enamel more resistant to cavity-causing bacteria. Dr. Bo Kwok considers a child's age, teeth, cavity risk, and fluoride exposure before recommending treatment at Avocabo Dental & Orthodontics.

What Does Fluoride Treatment for Children Involve?

Fluoride is a mineral applied to the tooth surfaces as a varnish, gel, or foam. It supports enamel remineralization and is usually provided as part of a preventive visit when clinically appropriate.

Who May Benefit?

Children with developing teeth, previous cavities, orthodontic appliances, exposed root surfaces, frequent sugar or acid exposure, or other cavity-risk factors may benefit. Fluoride is not automatically necessary in the same way for every patient.

An in-person evaluation is required before Dr. Bo Kwok can recommend care for an individual patient.

What Can Patients Expect?

Step 1

Risk assessment

We review oral health, diet, home care, fluoride sources, and cavity history.

Step 2

Application

The selected fluoride material is placed on the tooth surfaces according to the product and clinical plan.

Step 3

Aftercare

We explain eating, drinking, and brushing instructions that apply to the material used.

Potential Benefits

  • Can strengthen enamel against acid exposure
  • May support early enamel remineralization
  • Adds preventive support for children with elevated cavity risk

Limitations and Considerations

  • Does not replace brushing, flossing, or a balanced diet
  • Cannot restore a tooth with a cavity that needs operative treatment
  • Recommendations depend on total fluoride exposure and individual risk

What Alternatives May Be Considered?

Depending on risk, alternatives or additional measures may include improved home care, diet changes, fluoride toothpaste, sealants, or monitoring. A diagnosed cavity may require a filling or another treatment.

Comfort, Recovery, and Aftercare

Application is noninvasive, although children may notice the taste or texture. Follow the eating, drinking, and brushing instructions provided because aftercare varies with the fluoride product used.

When Should You Contact Our Office?

Contact the office if your child develops an unexpected reaction, swallows a concerning amount of fluoride product, or has tooth pain, swelling, or another symptom that needs evaluation.
