Pediatric dental care in Las Vegas

Pediatric Frenectomy in Las Vegas

A pediatric frenectomy releases selected restrictive frenum tissue beneath the tongue or lip. At Avocabo Dental & Orthodontics, Dr. Bo Kwok requires an in-person functional evaluation and may coordinate with other healthcare professionals before recommending treatment.

What Does Pediatric Frenectomy Involve?

A frenectomy is a procedure that cuts or reshapes a frenum when restriction contributes to a documented functional concern. The technique may involve a soft-tissue laser or another surgical approach depending on anatomy, age, and treatment goals.

Who May Benefit?

Some infants or children with restricted tongue or lip movement and feeding, oral-hygiene, speech, or dental concerns may benefit. Appearance alone does not determine the need, and not every tie requires release.

An in-person evaluation is required before Dr. Bo Kwok can recommend care for an individual patient.

What Can Patients Expect?

Step 1

Functional evaluation

We assess anatomy, movement, symptoms, dental effects, and input from other professionals when relevant.

Step 2

Procedure

The area is managed with appropriate comfort measures and the selected tissue is carefully released.

Step 3

Healing support

Families receive cleaning, feeding, activity, exercise, and follow-up instructions tailored to the child.

Potential Benefits

  • May improve mobility when restrictive tissue causes a functional problem
  • Can improve access for cleaning or selected dental treatment
  • May support coordinated feeding or speech care in appropriate cases

Limitations and Considerations

  • Does not guarantee improvement in feeding, speech, breathing, or orthodontic outcomes
  • Bleeding, soreness, scarring, reattachment, or need for additional care can occur
  • Therapy or evaluation by another professional may still be needed

What Alternatives May Be Considered?

Depending on the concern, observation, lactation support, feeding therapy, speech evaluation, oral exercises, or another medical assessment may be appropriate before or instead of release.

Comfort, Recovery, and Aftercare

The child may have temporary soreness and changes in feeding or oral movement. Follow the individualized cleaning, exercise, diet, and medication instructions, and do not add stretches or therapies that were not recommended.
