Special Needs Pediatric Dentistry in Las Vegas
Children can have different sensory, developmental, communication, behavioral, mobility, or medical needs. We do not expect every child to fit into the same dental visit. We adapt the visit to the child.
A Dental Visit That Can Adapt to Your Child
Flexibility, not luxury amenities, is the goal. Quieter individual operatories are available, and operatory lights can be dimmed. Every treatment operatory has a TV, and regular comfort blankets and multiple flavor options are available for many dental products. Families may request quieter, closed, or larger rooms, subject to availability, and open treatment areas are available when additional space is useful.
Sometimes the First Visit Is Just About Getting Comfortable
Familiarization or meet-the-team appointments are available. A useful visit does not necessarily mean completing every dental procedure; learning what your child tolerates can help us plan the next appointment.
There Is No One-Size-Fits-All Behavior Plan
Behavior guidance is individualized. Approaches may include tell-show-do, positive reinforcement, distraction, gradual introduction, parent participation, breaks, altered pacing, familiarization, and rescheduling when appropriate. Forcing completion is not always the right decision; sometimes the right decision is to stop, modify the approach, and return another day.
Parents Are Part of the Care Team
You know your child better than we do when you first walk through the door.
We encourage advance communication about communication preferences, sensory triggers, lights, sounds, tastes, textures, transitions, previous medical or dental experiences, calming strategies, mobility needs, medical conditions, medications, and interests or rewards that help.
You do not need to know the right dental terminology. Tell us what works for your child and what does not.
When Additional Support Is Needed
Nitrous oxide and, for selected cases, in-office general anesthesia with a dental anesthesiologist are available. Sedation is individualized and not automatically required for special needs. Learn more about pediatric sedation dentistry and nitrous oxide (laughing gas).
When Another Setting Is Safer
Avocabo manages a broad range of cases in-office, but we will refer when a child needs accommodations or medical support that cannot be safely and comfortably provided here.

“I'm here to provide the care your child needs while doing everything I can to make dentistry a positive experience. Sometimes that means moving slowly, changing our approach, or simply getting to know each other first. Sometimes treatment is necessary and we may need additional behavior guidance or sedation to complete it safely. If we need to take that path, my team and I will be there with you. If treatment isn't needed, I'll tell you that too. Parents are an important part of their child's care.”
