Dental 3D Imaging in Las Vegas

Cone beam computed tomography, or CBCT, creates three-dimensional views of teeth, jaws, facial bones, and nearby structures. At Avocabo Dental & Orthodontics, Dr. Camy Kwok recommends 3D imaging only when the additional information is clinically useful.

What Does Dental 3D Imaging Involve?

CBCT captures data from multiple angles and reconstructs it into a 3D volume. It can show relationships that may be difficult to evaluate on two-dimensional X-rays, including impacted teeth, roots, bone, jaws, and selected airway dimensions.

Who May Benefit?

Patients with impacted teeth, complex root relationships, jaw discrepancies, surgical questions, selected expansion needs, or another concern requiring three-dimensional assessment may benefit. Routine cases may not need CBCT.

An in-person evaluation is required before Dr. Camy Kwok can recommend care for an individual patient.

What Can Patients Expect?

Step 1

Justify the scan

The doctor determines whether 3D information is expected to affect diagnosis or planning.

Step 2

Capture

The patient remains still while the unit rotates around the head and records the selected field.

Step 3

Review

The volume is examined from multiple views and interpreted with the clinical findings.

Potential Benefits

  • Shows three-dimensional relationships of teeth, roots, bone, and jaws
  • May support planning for impacted teeth and complex movement
  • Allows the area to be reviewed from multiple angles

Limitations and Considerations

  • Uses ionizing radiation and should be justified for the individual
  • Does not replace a clinical examination or every other imaging type
  • Can show airway dimensions but cannot diagnose sleep-related breathing disorders by itself

What Alternatives May Be Considered?

Depending on the question, panoramic, cephalometric, bitewing, or periapical X-rays may provide sufficient information. Sometimes observation or referral for another imaging method is appropriate.

Comfort, Recovery, and Aftercare

The scan is noninvasive and does not usually require recovery. Remaining still is important; tell the team about pregnancy, difficulty standing, movement limitations, or anxiety before imaging.

When Should You Contact Our Office?
