Digital Dental Impressions in Las Vegas

Digital dental impressions use a handheld scanner to create a three-dimensional model of visible teeth, gums, and the bite. Dr. Camy Kwok uses scans at Avocabo Dental & Orthodontics when they are appropriate for records, planning, or appliance design.

What Does Digital Dental Impressions Involve?

The scanner captures many surface images and combines them into a digital model. The file may support clear aligners, retainers, orthodontic appliances, selected restorations, communication, and comparison over time.

Who May Benefit?

Patients needing orthodontic records, an appliance, a retainer, or selected restorative planning may benefit. Mouth opening, moisture, access, treatment type, and the information required can make a conventional impression preferable.

An in-person evaluation is required before Dr. Camy Kwok can recommend care for an individual patient.

What Can Patients Expect?

Step 1

Prepare

The teeth are checked and the scan area is kept as visible and dry as practical.

Step 2

Scan

The wand is moved around the teeth and bite while the digital model develops on screen.

Step 3

Review and use

Missing areas can be rescanned, then the completed model is stored or used for the planned service.

Potential Benefits

  • Avoids traditional impression trays in many cases
  • Creates an immediate model that can be reviewed on screen
  • Digital files can support planning and communication

Limitations and Considerations

  • Conventional impressions may still be needed
  • The scan records visible surfaces rather than internal tooth or bone anatomy
  • Treatment simulations based on scans do not guarantee outcomes

What Alternatives May Be Considered?

Traditional impression material, photographs, X-rays, CBCT, or other records may be used depending on the appliance, restoration, anatomy, and laboratory requirements.

Comfort, Recovery, and Aftercare

The scan is noninvasive, but the wand can feel bulky in some areas. Pauses and positioning adjustments can help with gagging or jaw fatigue; no recovery is required.

When Should You Contact Our Office?

Tell the team about a strong gag reflex, limited opening, loose teeth, or tender areas before scanning. Contact us if dental work or tooth movement occurs after the scan and before an appliance is delivered.
