Orthodontic care in Las Vegas

Early Orthodontic Care in Las Vegas

Early orthodontic care evaluates how a child's teeth, jaws, and bite are developing while baby and permanent teeth are present. Dr. Camy Kwok provides evaluations at Avocabo Dental & Orthodontics and may recommend monitoring rather than immediate treatment.

What Does Early Orthodontic Care Involve?

An early evaluation looks for developing concerns such as crossbites, significant crowding, unusual eruption, jaw-growth imbalance, protruding teeth, or oral habits. When selected treatment is appropriate, an appliance may create space, guide growth, improve a bite relationship, or address a habit.

Who May Benefit?

Children with visible bite concerns, early or delayed tooth loss, abnormal eruption, facial imbalance, oral habits, breathing concerns, or a dental referral may benefit from evaluation. Most children do not automatically need early active treatment.

An in-person evaluation is required before Dr. Camy Kwok can recommend care for an individual patient.

What Can Patients Expect?

Step 1

Growth evaluation

We assess teeth, bite, jaws, facial growth, dental development, habits, and health history.

Step 2

Records if needed

Photographs, scans, or diagnostic imaging may be recommended to clarify development.

Step 3

Monitor or treat

Dr. Kwok explains whether observation, a limited early phase, or later comprehensive care is appropriate.

Potential Benefits

  • Identifies developing problems while growth can be observed
  • May improve selected bite or space conditions
  • Creates a plan for monitoring eruption and future treatment timing

Limitations and Considerations

  • Early treatment is not necessary for every child
  • A later phase of braces or aligners may still be needed
  • Growth response and eruption timing cannot be guaranteed

What Alternatives May Be Considered?

Observation with scheduled growth checks is often appropriate. Depending on the concern, dental treatment, habit counseling, medical evaluation, or waiting for more permanent teeth may be recommended instead of an appliance.

Comfort, Recovery, and Aftercare

If an appliance is used, temporary pressure, speech changes, or increased saliva may occur. Cleaning, food, wear, activation, and emergency instructions depend on the appliance and must be followed closely.

When Should You Contact Our Office?

Contact us if an appliance breaks, becomes loose, causes a sore, is not fitting, or is lost. Report significant pain, swelling, injury, or a rapidly changing bite promptly.
