Orthodontic care in Las Vegas

Exposure and Bonding in Las Vegas

Exposure and bonding is a coordinated surgical and orthodontic approach used to guide selected impacted teeth that have not erupted normally. Dr. Camy Kwok evaluates tooth position, available space, roots, bone, and gum tissue before planning care at Avocabo Dental & Orthodontics.

What Does Exposure and Bonding Involve?

The impacted tooth is uncovered and a small orthodontic attachment is bonded to it. Gentle traction from the orthodontic appliance can then guide the tooth toward the dental arch over time.

Who May Benefit?

Patients with an impacted tooth, often a canine, may benefit when the tooth has a reasonable position, healthy root, adequate space, and a path for movement. Some impacted teeth are better monitored, removed, or managed another way.

An in-person evaluation is required before Dr. Camy Kwok can recommend care for an individual patient.

What Can Patients Expect?

Step 1

Locate and plan

Clinical and diagnostic imaging evaluates the tooth and nearby roots, bone, tissue, and available space.

Step 2

Create space and expose

Orthodontic preparation may occur first, followed by the appropriate surgical exposure and attachment.

Step 3

Guide and monitor

Light orthodontic forces are applied over time while tooth movement and tissue health are monitored.

Potential Benefits

  • May bring an impacted natural tooth into the arch
  • Can support alignment, bite, and smile balance
  • Uses coordinated planning around nearby teeth and tissues

Limitations and Considerations

  • Movement can be slow or unsuccessful
  • Nearby roots, gum levels, ankylosis, or tooth position may limit suitability
  • Requires surgical care plus ongoing orthodontic treatment

What Alternatives May Be Considered?

Depending on anatomy, alternatives may include observation, extraction, space closure, maintaining space for future replacement, or another surgical-orthodontic approach. Imaging and coordinated consultation guide the choice.

Comfort, Recovery, and Aftercare

Soreness and swelling can occur after exposure. Follow surgical cleaning, diet, medication, and activity instructions, and avoid pulling on the attachment or chain.

When Should You Contact Our Office?
