Soft-Tissue Laser Dentistry in Las Vegas

A soft-tissue laser uses focused light energy to remove or reshape selected gum and oral tissue. Dr. Camy Kwok evaluates the procedure, anatomy, health, and treatment goals before deciding whether laser treatment is appropriate at Avocabo Dental & Orthodontics.

What Does Soft-Tissue Laser Dentistry Involve?

The laser delivers controlled energy to a targeted soft-tissue area. It may be considered for selected gum contouring, frenectomy, or tooth-exposure procedures when tissue location and surrounding anatomy make it suitable.

Who May Benefit?

Patients needing a selected soft-tissue procedure may benefit when the laser can accomplish the clinical goal safely. Tissue thickness, bone involvement, infection, medical history, and the planned procedure may require another surgical method.

An in-person evaluation is required before Dr. Camy Kwok can recommend care for an individual patient.

What Can Patients Expect?

Step 1

Evaluate

The tissue, underlying anatomy, health history, and treatment objective are reviewed.

Step 2

Protect and treat

The area is managed with appropriate anesthesia, protective eyewear is used, and selected tissue is treated.

Step 3

Heal and review

The patient receives site-specific care instructions and follow-up when needed.

Potential Benefits

  • Allows controlled removal or reshaping of selected soft tissue
  • Can help manage bleeding during some procedures
  • May reduce the need for sutures in selected cases

Limitations and Considerations

  • Not appropriate for every procedure or anatomy
  • Soreness, bleeding, swelling, scarring, or tissue rebound can occur
  • Comfort and healing vary by procedure and patient

What Alternatives May Be Considered?

A scalpel, another surgical instrument, observation, referral, or a different procedure may be more appropriate. If supporting bone affects the concern, soft-tissue treatment alone may not be sufficient.

Comfort, Recovery, and Aftercare

The area may be tender during healing. Follow instructions for diet, brushing, rinsing, activity, and medication, and avoid disturbing the treated site.
