When Should My Baby First See a Dentist?
We recommend scheduling your child's first dental visit when their first tooth erupts or by one year of age. Establishing a dental home this early gives your family an ongoing relationship with a pediatric dentist who tracks growth and development over time, rather than a one-off visit.
What Actually Happens at the First Visit?
Dr. Bo routinely performs knee-to-knee examinations for infants and young toddlers: you'll sit facing her with your child in your lap, so they stay close to you the whole time. Avocabo has a dedicated infant room designed for handheld knee-to-knee examinations in a comfortable parent-child environment. The appointment varies by your child's age and cooperation.
Does My Baby Need a Cleaning?
It depends. Cleaning depends on your child's age and cooperation, and not every infant receives a conventional cleaning at this first visit.
What Does Dr. Bo Look For?
Dr. Bo examines your child's teeth and eruption pattern, checks for early signs of decay, and looks at the soft tissues, development, habits, and other age-specific concerns.
What Will We Talk About?
Guidance is individualized based on what Dr. Bo observes. Depending on your child, topics can include brushing, fluoride toothpaste, bottles, nighttime feeding, cups, diet, pacifiers, thumb or finger habits, and trauma prevention.
What If My Baby Cries?
Crying is a normal, developmentally appropriate response, and it does not automatically mean a failed visit. If more involved treatment becomes necessary, Dr. Bo may modify behavior guidance, stage treatment, or discuss other approaches with you.
Why Do Baby Teeth Matter?
Temporary does not mean unimportant.

Our dedicated infant room is designed for handheld knee-to-knee examinations in a comfortable parent-child environment. Larger family rooms and individual operatories are also available as your child grows.
